As most of you know, Reid has struggled with "stage fright" with organized sports since the age of 3. As long as it didnt involve a coach and an audience, the boy was in the game. Over the past couple of years, we have registered him to play (1 t-ball and 2 soccer teams) and each time he REFUSED to play on game day. I'm certain most parents wonder how it was that we were not able to encourage, bribe or just plain force our child to play. Especially, when it is very apparent that the boy loves ALL sports. Nothing we tried worked. It was difficult to watch his internal battle of really wanting to play but not being able to get past his fear.
Over Christmas break, he told us he wanted to play Flag Football. We signed him up wondering if the fear would set in again on game day. The team practiced for several weeks and on game day--- our boy played without a care in the world!
Funny how such an ordinary event, made us feel so happy, relieved and proud!
